Position statements

Jim Noorlander for Congress"Everything in life doesn't come down to an opinion. Moral absolutes exist that are time tested, and that most Americans have accepted for generations. The Declaration of Independence and Constitution of the United States support and defend these truths as time-honored principles of moral conduct. The United States of America will be only as strong as her commitment to these principles." Jim Noorlander

What I believe about abortion

AbortionI am against abortion because it violates the will of our Creator and the "spirit of the Constitution," which is the Declaration of Independence.

I am pro-life, which includes the life of the mother. Therefore, medical procedures resulting in the death of the unborn child, except as the unintended consequence of an effort to save the mothers physical life are unacceptable.

I am aware of the consequences this nation may face as a result of abortion. The Founding Fathers taught that since nations cannot be rewarded or punished for their sins in the next life they must be in this. Through cause and effect, Providence punishes national sins by national calamities. Do we have any national sins?

State and Federal courts cannot create a right our Creator has already ruled upon. No legislative body at any level of government can pass a law legalizing abortion anymore than a state can pass a law legalizing rape.

What I believe about crime

CrimeIt is reported that the United States has more people in prison than any other nation on earth. There are many reasons. I will share only the most obvious.

Liberty and freedom represent personal responsibility and accountability under God. They are conceptually opposite to the ideals of socialism. An out-of-control welfare state has been created in many cities and towns across America. Congested cities with low employment rates, often created by socialistic welfare programs, contribute to crime in America. The values associated with hard work are being destroyed.

Socialism carries its own kind of spirit. It fosters hate, crime, and class warfare. The more our people embrace the welfare programs offered by government, the more secular and godless they will become.

Value-free government-run schools, which ignore and fight time-tested religious principles contribute to crime in America. As long as the courts rule God out of society, and as long as the law makers refuse to reign in the courts using the constitutional remedies they have been given, we and our children will continue to be coerced into an amoral straight jacket. The courts are tearing society apart, including the family, which is the foundation of society.

What I believe about the economy

EconomyWhen I started my business in 1979 I paid my men $15.00 per hour. The average cost of an automobile was $5,000, a home cost $30,000, and the price of gas was under $1.00 per gallon.

Thirty years later the base-entry wage is $15.00 per hour, the cost of a home is $250,000, the price of a car is $20,000 or more, and gasoline is almost $4.00 per gallon; yet, our leaders in government our telling us that nothing is wrong with the money.

Funding an out-of-control welfare state with money created out of nothing, and promoting policies not authorized by the U.S. Constitution are the primary causes of inflation. This includes giving away large sums of unaccountable foreign aid, and paying $25 billion dollars a month for an unauthorized, unconstitutional war.

When money is created on a printing press, and borrowed back from our enemies to pay for so-called "free" government programs, not only for the poor but for the rich, society suffers economically, politically, and socially. We cannot remain free as a nation under such a policy.

What I believe about education

EducationAn amendment to the U.S. Constitution is required before the Federal government can legally get involved in funding education and establishing educational policy. Congress acts outside its constitutional authority when it passes such laws, which are unlawful and illegal no matter how the Supreme Court rules.

The curriculum being taught in our public schools is largely responsible for the social ills facing America. A value-free education is an education without value. To many of our government-run schools are offering just such an education.

What I believe about energy

EnergyThere is no shortage of oil. The current "energy crisis" is partly the result of a $25 billion per month war effort we cannot afford. The printing of money out of nothing to pay for the war effort, as well as a housing-market boom/bust resulting from a market not driven by supply and demand but by the availability of cheap bank credit, is largely responsible for the inflated dollar and the high cost of oil.

The current fad to use bio-fuels is driving food prices up, and only complicates the problem.

America has the resources and technical know how to become energy independent within ten to fifteen years. A lack of oil is not the problem, but a lack of political courage to stop dealing with our enemies, to stop caving in to environmental extremist, and to start developing our own oil reserves. It is now a matter of national security that we drill for and refine our own oil, build nuclear power plants wherever possible, and stop supporting with our dollars governments that are hostile to liberty — governments that openly promote terrorism and the destruction of America.

What I believe about the environment

EnvironmentIt is our responsibility to be prudent and productive with our God-given natural resources. In this role we are commanded to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth. For example, we are to turn deserts into farms and wastelands into groves. This requires a proper and continuing balance between development and conservation, between use and preservation.

I wholeheartedly support realistic efforts to preserve the environment and reduce pollution — water, air, and land. I reject, however, the argument that this objective ought to be pursued at all costs, including costly government regulations and the heavy hand of arrogant bureaucrats spurred on by irresponsible pressure groups.

The Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution limits eminent domain to the purchase of private property with just compensation for public use. This would include military bases and government office buildings. It does not include public ownership such as urban renewal, environmental protection, or the preservation of historic sites. Under no circumstances can the Federal government take away private property by means of rules and regulations that preclude or substantially reduce the productive use of the property, even with just compensation.

I call for a return to the states and to the people all lands held by the Federal government without authorization by the U.S. Constitution.

What I believe about executive orders

Executive OrdersI oppose Presidential executive orders that create laws, or otherwise usurp the Constitutional authority of the law-making, legislative branch of government.

This constitutionally subversive practice must be stopped by Congress. All unconstitutional executive orders must be repealed.

What I believe about family

Jim's familyThe law of our Creator defines marriage as the union between one man and one woman. The marriage covenant is the foundation of the family, and the family is fundamental to the maintenance of a stable, healthy, and prosperous social order. No government may legitimately define marriage or family relations contrary to the order of God. Using the Declaration of Independence as our moral creed, it states that we will be guided by "the Laws of Nature, and of Natures God." The laws of nature and the laws of God remind us that marriage is between a man and a woman.

I reject the idea that sexual offenders are deserving of legal favor or special protection, and affirm the rights of states and localities to proscribe offensive sexual behavior. I oppose all efforts to impose a new sexual legal order through the federal court system. I stand against so-called "sexual orientation" and "hate crime" statutes that attempt to legitimize inappropriate sexual behavior and stifle public resistance to its expression. I oppose government funding of "partner" benefits for unmarried individuals. I oppose any legal recognition of homosexual unions.

I recognize that parents have the fundamental right and responsibility to nurture, educate, and discipline their children. I oppose any government assumption of these responsibilities without just cause and legal due process. I affirm the value of father and mother in the home, and oppose efforts to legalize the adoption of children by homosexual singles or couples.

What I believe about foreign policy

Foreign PolicyThe Foreign Policy of both major parties is promoted by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), a think-tank organization 100 percent committed to global government. As a result, this nation will continue promoting the redistribution of wealth, or socialism, with Americans footing the bill for undeclared wars, massive amounts of foreign aid, the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP), the North American Union, and the centralization of all power.

For example, what the leadership in Washington is doing along our borders is either irresponsible or deliberate. Those who promote a global community know that if the borders remain open a few more years it will be enough to tip the scale and create a North American Union. The plan is to merge Mexico, Canada, and the United States economically, politically, and socially.

This will cause America to lose her sovereignty. It will destroy the culture of liberty America has enjoyed for more than two hundred years. You can only put so much water in Kool Aid before it ceases to be Kool Aid.

When it comes to foreign policy it is imperative that we stop promoting nations that are hostile to liberty, which include China. Currently, Chinaa communist nation is building the largest war machine in the history of the world with American dollars.

What I believe about free trade

Free TradeFree trade or fair trade? And what do we mean by free? Are we talking about the free and open market to accommodate an exchange of goods in the spirit of reasonable and honest profits? Do we mean trading with others who share our values of liberty and freedom, and that there is more to buying and selling than just the bottom line? Do we use the phrase "free trade" to allow nations to import their products into our nation's store without paying rent for the store?

America is the largest shopping mall in the world, and every nation wants to get their products into our store. Many of our own manufacturers outsource labor to nations hostile to the principles of liberty and freedom. Using slave labor to manufacture their products, the products then reenter the United States where they are sold. So who pays the rent on the store? The American taxpayer who is forced to subsidize large corporations by privatizing profits but socializing everything else.

I am for fair trade. I am not for free trade with its corrupted meaning.

What I believe about gay rights

Gay RightsTo equate same-sex marriage, gay and lesbian behavior to conventional heterosexual marriage removes the moral responsibilities of human action and replaces it with hedonism. Marriage assumes the special responsibilities associated with procreation and child rearing. Our rights as human beings come from our Creator. We cannot violate His laws with impunity.

The Founding Fathers believed, as do I, that man is obligated to obey whatever our Creator has ruled upon. Man has no right to rule where God has already spoken. In other words, human law cannot contradict the higher law of right and wrong. It cannot contradict divine law. State and Federal governments have no more authority to legalize so-called gay rights, including same-sex marriage, than they have the right to legalize rape.

The foundation of our republic is based upon morality and virtue.

What I believe about gun control

Gun ControlThe Creator of all mankind has given us the right to defend our lives, our families, our property and our liberty. These rights do not come from government. Since the nation's founding we have used guns to exercise that right in extreme circumstances. In a free society there will always be those who use their freedom to harm others. Nevertheless, we don't kill the goose that lays a golden egg just because she cackles off key once in awhile.

If there are weapons that can be proven to be extreme by private ownership in our free society then we change the law by amendment. We amend the Constitution of the United States. Otherwise, what we have is unlawful, illegal, lawless government. That is just as devastating to freedom as those who would use guns unlawfully to harm others.

Stricter penalties should be imposed on people who abuse the right of self-defense. The sacred writings remind us that "by thus exercising the law upon them, every man suffering according to that which he had done, they became more still."

What I believe about health care

Health CareI oppose government involvement in health care. Government regulation constitutes a threat to both the quality and availability of patient-oriented health care and treatment. Hospitals, doctors, and other health care providers should be accountable to patientsnot to politicians, insurance bureaucrats, or HMO administrators.

If the supply of medical care is controlled by government, then government, not the people, will determine which demands are satisfied. The result will be the rationing of services, higher costs, poorer resultsand the transfer of life and death decisions from you and your doctor to unaccountable political overseers.

The Federal Government has no constitutional authority to regulate or restrict the people's access to medical care, supplies, and treatments. Therefore, I advocate eliminating the Food and Drug Administration, which is responsible for prohibiting beneficial products, treatments, and technologies here in the United States that are freely available in much of the world.

What I believe about immigration

Illegal ImmigrantsI affirm the integrity of our borders and of the constitutional authority and obligation of the Federal Government to guard and protect our borders from invasion. It is the responsibility of Congress to oversee and regulate the numbers and qualifications of those desiring to enter our country.

Each year approximately one-million legal immigrants and almost as many illegal aliens enter the United States. These immigrantsincluding illegal alienshave been made eligible for various kinds of public assistance including housing, education, Social Security, and legal services. This unconstitutional drain on the Federal Treasury is having a severe and adverse impact on our economy, increasing the cost of government at federal, state, and local levels, adding to the tax burden, and stressing the fabric of society. The mass importation of people with low standards of living threatens the wage structure of the American worker and the labor balance in our country.

Every individual group and/or private agency that requests the admission of an immigrant to the United States should be required to provide housing and sustenance for said immigrants, and bear the full weight and responsibility for the economic independence of the immigrants. These companies should be required to post a bond as a guarantee.

What I believe about the judiciary

JudiciaryThe United States Constitution does not provide a lifetime tenure for federal judges, who hold their office only "during good Behaviour" (Article 3, Section 1). I support the right of Congress to remove offending judges through the process of impeachment, as provided for in the U.S. Constitution.. Furthermore, Congress must exert the power it possesses to prohibit all federal courts from hearing cases that Congress deems to be outside federal jurisdiction pursuant to Article 3 Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution.

I particularly support legislation that would remove from federal appellate review any and all matters involving the acknowledgement of God as the source of law, liberty, and government.

What I believe about nationhood

NationhoodThe United States is properly a free and sovereign republic and should strive to live in peace with all nations, without interfering in their internal affairs, and without permitting them to interfere in ours. I am, therefore, unalterably opposed to entangling alliances, via treaties or any other form of commitment, which compromise our national sovereignty or commit us to foreign wars.

I steadfastly oppose American participation in any form of world-government, including a world court, administered under the auspices of the United Nations. The President and Congress should terminate the membership of the United States in the United Nations. Specifically, we should terminate all participation in so-called United Nations peace-keeping operations.

The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land and must be obeyed. The United States should not enter into any treaty or other agreement that commits our military forces and/or tax dollars, or that compromises the sovereignty of the United States, or attempts to accomplish any other purpose that is properly the subject of domestic law.

I specifically denounce the agreement establishing the proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) and any other such trade agreements, either bi-lateral or regional in nature. All treaties must be subordinate to the U.S. Constitution, since the constitution is the only instrument which both empowers and limits the Federal Government. American troops must serve only under American commanders, not those of the United Nations or foreign countries.

What I believe about pornography

Pornography distorts and degrades the true and sacred nature of sexual relations between one man and one woman in the holy bonds of matrimony. Pornography is anathema to society and the family on which society is based. It results in real and significant emotional, physical, spiritual, and financial costs to individuals, families, and communities. I call upon our local, state, and federal governments to uphold the cherished First Amendment right to free speech by vigorously enforcing our laws against obscenity. Pornography is not a legitimate or lawful expression of free speech. As such, it is not protected by the First Amendment.

Due to the uninhibited growth of the porn industry, we live in a sex-saturated society where almost nothing remains sacred or untainted by its perversion. While I believe in the responsibility of the individual and of corporate entities to regulate themselves, I also believe that government plays a vital role and has a constitutional obligation to help maintain the highest level of decency in society.

What I believe about private property

I affirm the Fourth Amendment right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures, including arbitrary or de facto registrations, general and unwarranted electronic surveillance, national computer databases, and national identification cards.

I affirm that civil governments must be strictly limited in their powers to intrude upon the private property of individual citizens, in particular, that no place be searched and no thing be seized, except upon proof of probably cause that a crime has been committed and the proper judicial warrant issued.

I oppose legislation and executive action that deprive the people of their Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights under claims of necessity to "combat terrorism" or to "protect national security."

I oppose legislation and administrative action utilizing asset forfeiture laws which enable the confiscation of the private property of persons not involved in a crime. Forfeiture of assets should only be enforced after a property owner is convicted of a crime. Such forfeitures should only follow full due process of the law under criminal prosecution standards.

I oppose the monitoring and controlling of the financial transactions of the people through such proposed laws as "Know Your Customer." Banks should be repositories of treasure and fiduciaries for the people, not enforcers for the State. Any information regarding customer transactions the State obtains from banks must be subject to traditional Fourth Amendment safeguards.

What I believe about religious freedom

Amendment I reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

Our Constitution grants no authority to the Federal Government to grant or deny religious "expression." Both the First and Tenth Amendments forbid such tyranny.

I call upon all branches of government to cease their attacks on the religious liberties of the people and the states, regardless of the forum in which these liberties are exercised.

I assert that any form of taxation on churches and other religious organizations is a direct and dangerous step toward state control of the church. Such intrusion is prohibited by the Constitution and must be halted.

I assert that private organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America should determine their own membership, volunteers, and employees based on their own private oaths and creeds. This also applies to private schools.

What I believe about Social Security

The Constitution grants no authority to the federal government to administrate a Social Security system. I advocate phasing out the entire Social Security program, while continuing to meet the obligations already assumed under the system. Until the current Social Security system can be responsibly phased out, I propose the following:

1. The Social Security tax should not be a "rainy day" fund that politicians pirate or borrow from to cover their errors and/or pay for their excesses.

2. Individuals who have contributed to Social Security should be allowed to withdraw those funds and transfer them into an IRA or similar investment under the private control of the individual.

3. Any sort of merger between the U.S. Social Security System and that of a foreign country should be banned, so the distribution of benefits will not go to persons who have not qualified for payments under American law as legal residents.

4. Earning limitations on persons aged 62 and over must be removed, enabling them to earn additional income without placing their benefits at risk.

5. Provisions of the Social Security system that penalize people born during the "notch years" (1917 to 1926) should be repealed. These people should be placed on the same benefit schedule as everyone else.

I support the right of individuals to choose between private retirement and pension programs.

What I believe about socialism

SocialismSocialism manifests itself in a number of ways, but primarily when the government removes responsibility and accountability from the lives of its citizens. The more a nation embraces socialism the more secular and godless the nation becomes. Socialism is in direct conflict with the Christian principles this nation was founded upon. For years the politicians have been promising the American people great things at their own expense. In exchange for these promises the politicians receive honor, prestige, and security in their present positions.

What we see in America today, low standards, an out-of-control welfare state, abortion, child abuse, same-sex marriage, illegal immigration, and the creation of a North American Union, are all symptoms of a disease. The disease is socialism and her ugly twin sister, communism. What we see today is the result of seventy-five years of The New Deal, The New Frontier, and The Great Society, orchestrated by both major parties.

What I believe about states rights

Our federal republic was created by the joint action of the several states. It has been gradually perverted into a socialistic machine for federal control and intervention in the domestic affairs of the states.

The federal government has no authority to mandate policies relating to state education, natural resources, transportation, private business, housing, health care, and so on.

I call for the federal government to divest itself of operations not authorized by the U.S. Constitution. I call upon Congress to extract the federal government from such enterprises, whether or not they compete with private enterprise.

What I believe about terrorism

America is engaged in an undeclared war with a poorly defined enemy (terrorism), a war that threatens to be never ending and is being used to vastly expand government power, particularly the power of the executive branch, at the expense of individual liberty.

The "war on terrorism" is serving as an excuse for the government to spend beyond its income, expand the federal bureaucracy, and socialize the nation through taxpayer bailouts of the airlines, subsidies to giant insurance corporations, and other federal programs.

I oppose legislation and executive action that deprive the people of their Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights under the guise of "combating terrorism" or "protecting national security." Examples of such legislation are the National Security Act, the USA PATRIOT Act, and the proposed Domestic Securities Enhancement Act ("Patriot II").

I am opposed to the criminal acts of terrorists and their organizations, as well as the governments which condone them. Individuals responsible for acts of terrorism must be punished for their crimes, including capital punishment when appropriate. In responding to terrorism, however, the United States must avoid acts of retaliation abroad which destroy innocent lives and create enmity toward the United States and its people.

In accord with the views of our Founding Fathers, we must disengage this nation from the international entanglements which generate foreign hatred of the United States and are used as an excuse by terrorist to attack America and its people.

What I believe about veterans

I appreciate the contribution of armed forces personnel and veterans for the preservation of American freedom. I support continued recognition of their contributions to the national welfare by providing equitable pay and benefits to our military personnel, and generous health, education, and other benefits to veterans.

I vigorously resist the attempt by any government agency to nullify or reduce earned benefits to veterans and their survivors, including but not limited to compensation, pensions, education, and health care.

What I believe about the War in Iraq

Iraq War

This War in Iraq is not about terrorism, as many suggest. It is about stabilizing the Middle East because of its vast oil reserves and forcing the Islamic nations to enter into the 21st Century.

Terrorism is a tactic. It is promoted by nations that support it as a tactic. The way to fight terrorism is not going door-to-door with M-16s, but by going after the leaders of governments who promote it.

Click here for more information on what Jim believes about the The War in Iraq.

What I believe about welfare

God, who endows all men with life, liberty, and property, and the right to pursue happiness, also exhorts individuals to care for the needy, the sick, the homeless, the aged, and those who are otherwise unable to care for themselves.

Government is largely responsible for creating the welfare crisis in America. Government social and cultural programs and policies undermine the work ethic of its people, just as government economic and regulatory policies undermine the ability of our citizens to obtain work.

Providing charity and other forms of welfare is not the constitutional responsibility of the federal government. Under no circumstances should the people of the United States be forced through taxation to assume the cost of providing welfare for other citizens. Taxpayers should not be indentured to subsidize welfare payments for people who enter the United States illegally.

The message of Christian charity is fundamentally at odds with the concept that government welfare is a right. The government's welfare programs are not only misdirected but morally destructive. The purpose of civil government is to safeguard life, liberty, and propertynot to redistribute the wealth of its citizens. The redistribution of wealth is contrary to the Biblical commandment against theft.

I encourage individuals, families, churches, civic groups, and other private organizations to help those in need, which is a personal not governmental responsibility.
